Question: How do you handle tight deadlines and multiple priorities?

Example Answer

  • Situation: In my previous role as a marketing intern, our team had to deliver a comprehensive marketing campaign within two weeks, which involved creating content, designing visuals, and executing various promotional activities.
  • Task: Therefore I had to effectively manage our time and resources to ensure the project was completed on schedule while maintaining the high quality expected by our clients.
  • Action: I first conducted a thorough assessment of the project requirements and created a detailed project plan outlining all the necessary tasks and their dependencies. Next, I prioritised the team’s tasks based on their urgency and importance and then broke down the larger tasks into smaller ones. To manage the workload efficiently, I delegated each of these tasks to the team based on their skills and expertise.
  • Result: As a result, despite the tight deadline, we were able to produce a high-quality marketing campaign that exceeded our client’s expectations. The success of the project was due to meticulous planning, effective work distribution, and open communication among the team.
  • Reflection: I recognise the importance of assessing task urgency and importance, breaking down tasks, and effective time management. I will continue refining these skills to enhance productivity and meet deadlines consistently.

Question: How do you handle conflicts within the team?

Example Answer:

  • Situation: During my previous role working with a team of retail assistants, there was a situation where the team leader and a few members of the team had a disagreement over the schedule list for next week.
  • Task: We needed to resolve the conflict and find a solution that would be beneficial for all parties and the schedule as quickly as possible.
  • Action: I approached the team leader and discussed the key concerns for each team member and why the schedule didn’t work for them. We worked together to find a compromise for the schedule that worked for each team member and let the team know.
  • Result: As a result, the schedule was quickly organised and each team member was satisfied with the new rotations.
  • Reflect: I found this experience useful to prevent similar conflicts in the future by implementing better communication and collaboration strategies within the team.

ARUP INTERVIEW QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Competency-based Question: Give an example of when you had conflict within a team setting

Good Answer:

  • Situation: During a complex software development project, our cross-functional team was in a tight situation with deadlines and pressure from adequate and timely delivery.
  • Task: The success of the project was important for our company, and it demanded collaboration between software developers, designers, and quality assurance engineers.
  • Action: To tackle the conflict, I organised a team meeting to encourage open communication. During the meeting, I allowed each team member to express their concerns and viewpoints regarding the project. By addressing the conflict openly and proactively, the team members started collaborating more effectively and respectfully.
  • Result: As a result of this conflict resolution, the team were able to successfully complete the project to a good quality within 2 days of the deadline.
  • Reflect: I was able to learn the impact of communication in the growth of an organisation. Without effective communication, there will be lack of cooperation which will cause a dent in the project outcome. Therefore, moving forward I learned to always encourage open communication among team members.

Arup Technical Exercise Question: Think of a building on your campus that could be more sustainable. What would you do to improve it?

  1. Perform an energy audit of the building to discover high energy consumption areas.
  2. Promote renewable energy by installing solar panels on the building’s rooftop.
  3. Use the building as an educational tool by displaying information about its sustainable features and the benefits of environmentally friendly practices.

With these sustainable measures, the building on campus would not only become an example of environmentally responsible practices but also contribute to the university’s overall commitment to sustainability and climate action.

Now that you are well aware of what you will be expected at your Boeing video interview, let us go through some Boeing video interview questions and answers to give you a clear idea on how to formulate answers to the interview questions.

Boeing HireVue Video Interview Questions and Answers

The Boeing HireVue video interview will be behavioural and the best way we’ve found to answer Boeing’s behavioural questions is to use the STAR technique. Discover more about how Boeing uses the STAR technique with this short video below:

The first Boeing video interview question answer below is a classic example of how to answer Boeing interview questions using STAR.

Question: Describe a time when you had to adjust to a substantial life change and how you adapted.

Good Answer

Situation: Around 2-3 years ago, I applied for a finance course which I really wanted to be a part of for 3-4 years. I had other things to do and thus I couldn’t pay attention to that. This year I applied for that course which could help me get a promotion in my past job and through that I could directly apply to a better post in my company for an increased pay. I sat for the entrance exam of that course but couldn’t qualify. I had everything planned according to this course.

Task: Now that I couldn’t qualify, I had to take the longer route to the finance position which I wanted to be at.

Action: I started taking small online courses with certification. These courses helped me grow in my field and also gave me the opportunity to explore new ways of doing things. For almost a year I juggled work and these classes. I managed my time so that I could give at least 4 hours to the extra courses.

Result: After almost 1-2 years I applied for a better position at the same firm and looking at my resume and knowing that I belong to the same firm and have worked hard to give my best whilst preparing for a better position, my managers were very impressed and offered me the position.

Reflect: This situation taught me that if we fail at things, instead of being disheartened, we can look for more ways to reach the same outcome. And ambition combined with hard work never fails you.

You can also check out the following video on how to answer “How do you Handle Stress and Pressure?” with similar connotations.

Question:  Describe a time when you were given instructions that were either vague or unclear, how did you handle it?

Good Answer

Situation: I worked as a Quality Control Assistant as an internship at a local manufacturer producing small electronics. Within a few days of starting, my superior asked me to carry out a full inspection on my own of the latest batch of devices.

Task: As I had just started, this request was unclear to me as I did not understand at the time what specific things to look out for as part of my inspection.

Action: I requested an updated checklist from my supervisor for these items to use for my inspection of the hardware used in production and the devices produced. Once provided, I immediately went to work checking each box and going above and behind to find further potential errors beyond the checklist in a safe manner to ensure quality was at its best for all stages of production.

Result: I completed my inspection within the deadline, highlighting only a few faults and several improvement areas. My superior was impressed when she saw the thoroughness of my review of the production and complimented me on the timely delivery.

Reflect: Asking for further guidance and materials to assist with my individual work is useful for gaining further understanding of processes, and can help further my own method of completing the required tasks to a high standard.

Question: Describe a time when you had to follow the rules, did you respond?

Good Answer

Situation: I worked with a company as a content writer in a team for their blog, where I had to follow a set layout for each post on their site. I found that often the content I had written was difficult to match this template.

Task: As a result of this, I found that the quality of the content I and my team had written for the website was not the best it could be for the company from my point of view, and suspected it may affect the CTR/conversion rates.

Action: I raised this with the head editor within the team who reviewed the case and discussed a proposal for a different template to be used. We all agreed that we could come up with our own templates for different posts which would continue to follow the majority of the layout but would allow for greater and more unique information.

Result: Three months after several blog entries were posted with the new format, the overall views to the blog pages were boosted by up to 30%, which also saw a boost of up to 5% of the CTR.

Reflect: I found that raising an issue with the rules respectfully with management to be beneficial for myself and the company.  I constantly seek to find new and unique methods that work alongside the existing rules and templates in order to improve performance for my own work and for my team.

Question: Describe a time when you had to utilize a skill set that you weren’t strong in. How did you improve?

Good Answer

Situation: I was once asked by my supervisor to formulate an Employment Contract for a new role within the firm for my previous firm as a HR assistant. I was very enthusiastic about developing documents like these since I always had an interest in projects related to law.

Task: At the time, I had little experience with writing legal documents and the specific language used within these. Up until this point, my role had mainly focussed around communication with the various other departments via telephone and emails.

Action: To understand this area further, I researched and took a comprehensive online course on the subject using LinkedIn within the same day which deepened my knowledge significantly through my notes. I used these notes and guidance from my colleagues within the HR team to draft the contract and sent this to the supervisor to review.

Result: My supervisor was very impressed with the quality of this first draft and provided some feedback. Upon receiving feedback on my initial draft, I quickly worked on the improvements to ensure the contract was ready in time. I continued to draft and develop further legal documents for the firm and continued to improve my knowledge.

Reflect: I always seek to learn new skills beyond the requirements of the job description in order to develop myself professionally. I found the course online really useful and gaining insights from my team were crucial in helping me to understand the contextual requirements of the draft of the contract.

Question: Describe a time you were faced with a problematic teammate and how you handled it.

Good Answer

Situation: Whilst working at a local restaurant, one day a fellow waiting staff member seemed short-tempered and irritable compared to their usual outgoing behaviour.

Task: Their less social behaviour was affecting the team’s mood and I was concerned that this may also have an affect on the customers, which would negatively impact our usual great customer service reputation.

Action: I calmly confronted the colleague in private to ask what may have been the cause of this unusual behaviour and whether there is something I could help with to support them. They explained that they had recently been unable to keep pace with the assignments during the university semester. To help with this, I offered to cover their shift for the day so that they could spend more time working on their coursework.

Result: The manager agreed to this request and the co-worker was able to complete their assignment on time. The following week, the colleague returned to work for their next shift with their more friendly and positive attitude. This boosted the mood of the team and the co-worker had received 3 different compliments that day alone.

Reflect: I understand the importance of considering the point of view of others, and aim to resolve any issues within the team so that we can work together more effectively and efficiently to achieve our personal and collective goals.

Atkins Virtual Interview Most Asked Questions and Answers

Question: What is your ideal work environment?

Tips to Answer: Try to tailor an answer that blends in well with Atkins’s values and vision. Do not focus your answers solely on the people you will be working with.

Good Answer: My ideal work environment is the one which is a blend of collaboration and innovation. I am an innovative person and I believe when we work in a collaborative environment, we put together all the great minds and there’s where we can find innovation. The best part about collaboration is that it leads to faster decision-making and diverse ways of problem-solving.

Question: Tell us something that is not on your CV?

Tips to Answer: For this, you could open with a joke, however, don’t risk it if you don’t believe the joke is appropriate for Atkins. For this, consider Atkins’ workplace culture and the interviewer, as first impressions count! You could discuss any casual events or even tell them about a voluntary cause that you feel deeply about and work in your idle time towards supporting. Tell them how far you have gone on that road and how far you would like to reach in the future.

Good Answer:  Anything that’s not on my resume can get me rejected straightaway (jokingly). Jokes apart, I do feel that the increasing deforestation will have an adverse effect on the planet in the long run, and for that I try to do the bare minimum that I can in my capacity. I run campaigns on vacations to spread awareness in different cities. I have also hosted a number of plantation drives in recent years. I know that these things aren’t enough to save our planet from grave danger, but I do feel that if I can bring change to even one in a thousand people, that’s a win-win.

Question: Why do you want to work with Atkins?

Tips to Answer: This question is built in a way to rule out those who apply in masses. Therefore, it is important that you show them your long-term commitment towards Atkins. Assure them that you understand their brand and demonstrate your passion for Atkins. Do your research and focus on what interests you about Atkins on a personal and professional level.

Good Answer: For me success requires compassion and safety for another. At Atkins, since the company has been established it has shown that success can be achieved with collaboration and teamwork, whilst keeping in mind the environment and the local community. I’ve always sought a challenging company that can enhance my experience and skills whilst providing prosperity through safety and compassion to my team, the Atkins family, the community and the environment.

But what questions can I ask in my Atkins interview? Here’s our top 5 interview questions that you should ask your interviewer:

Atkins Interview Questions and Answers

Here are some of the most commonly used interview questions during the Atkins interview process and our tips on how you can best answer them:

Question: What are your Strengths and Weaknesses?

Tips to Answer: Pick one strength and one weakness. For strengths you can pick any of the key competencies for the job from the job description, but make sure to provide an example. For the weakness, do not include qualities like pleasing people, difficulty in saying no, etc. Use a real weakness when answering because it may otherwise appear as dishonest. Avoid using a skill required on the job description.

Good Answer: My strength is working well in a team, where I prioritize group goals over personal goals and always actively listen to my team members’ thoughts and ideas. Although I may struggle with time-management, I continue to seek to improve this by taking a time-management course. I constantly develop my organisational skills and manage time effectively, leading to more efficiency at work. I left my previous job to seek new responsibilities according to my skills and continue to work towards personal goals.

To get more tips on how to answer this question, watch this short video by GF:

Question: Do you consider yourself successful?

Tips to Answer: First things first, DO NOT say no, even if you don’t consider yourself successful at the moment. Bring out the positive approach in your answer. Explain to them what success means to you, i.e., how you define success. Your answer should show pride in what you have achieved so far and ambition to continue to achieve greater successes.

Good Answer: I measure success by my personal goals and the relationships I have with those who inspire and support me. While I’ve faced challenges and failures, I’ve also kept close to those who motivate me. Despite not yet achieving everything, I remain optimistic and driven towards my aspirations. I see myself as continuously growing and striving towards success.

Question:  Tell me about a time when you collaborated with a team

Tips to Answer: This is again a behavioural question where you will be required to answer in a way that convinces the interviewer that you understand the value of working in a team. Consider a project where you have worked well in a team. How was this organised? What did you achieve as a team?

Good Answer:

  • Situation –  I was a data analyst in my last job within a team of data analysts and we had to work on our own findings for a shared client case and come up with a plan for the company within a very short deadline.
  • Task – We had to find the data which would help our client to improve their performance as part of a group project rather than individual project.
  • Action – We delegated the main research functions and managed our own areas, scheduling daily meetings to ensure we were all caught up on the progress of the report.
  • Result – Working together helped complete the report for our client much more quickly and efficiently than we had done as an individual project, meeting the short deadline.
  • Reflect – Moving forwards, I always seek to find the most efficient method to achieve our shared goals and satisfy the requirements from the client in a way that worked for each of us in the team.

EDF Energy is an energy company in the United Kingdom, with operations spanning electricity generation, and the sale of electricity and gas to households and businesses. EDF Energy currently employs 13,300 people and is responsible for almost 6 million customer accounts.

1. EDF Online Application

This is your first chance to set a good impression and stand out from your competition, so don’t be tempted to rush! The online form will ask you to provide details of your education/academic results, work experience and may potentially involve some motivational questions, though this is largely dependent on the business area you apply to.

You will also be required to upload your CV so make sure to include all the relevant information in it. Be precise and concise when it comes to describing your past experiences and achievements.

Throughout your online application, also make sure you refer to the key competencies sought after by EDF’s recruiters. Make sure your achievements, as well as the projects you have worked on, reflect these skills or values:

  • Integrity
  • One team: Commitment to diversity of employees
  • Social environmental responsibility
  • Excellence
  • Making safety the priority

Tip #1: Try to apply as early as possible, as applications are often reviewed on a rolling basis. By doing so, you increase your chances of progressing through to the next stage of the recruitment process.

Tip #2: In answering motivational questions remember to be as specific and precise as possible: refer to unique facts about EDF that motivate you to work there, such as special awards, CSR projects, etc. When describing why you want to apply for this specific role, mention the core skills required for this position and how these match both your previous experiences and personal interests.

2. EDF Assessment Online aptitude tests

EDF Numerical Reasoning Test

EDF’S Numerical Reasoning Test will examine your ability to understand a previously unseen passage – as well as its data. You will be required to perform basic GCSE Maths calculations.

Do not worry if you have not done Maths in a while! The complexity of this does not lie in the knowledge tested but in the time pressure and stress involved. You will have less than a minute to read the question, analyse the data provided and then perform the necessary calculations.

The only way to guarantee your success is by practicing tests beforehand. This way you familiarise yourself with the types of questions and become more confident in your ability to solve them. Learn how to manage your stress in a safe environment and you will not have to face rejection – just because you were unfamiliar with the process.

EDF Logical Reasoning Test

EDF’s Logical Reasoning Test, often referred to as a Diagrammatic or Inductive Test, will expose you to 5 diagrams with varying shapes and ask you to identify the right pattern and indicate what comes next in the sequence.

What makes the EDF Logical Reasoning Test difficult is that there is no limit to how abstract these patterns and trends can be. They will usually evolve around the size, arrangement, movements and colours of two and three-dimensional shapes.

Look closely! Some patterns will involve more than one of the categories mentioned above.

The Logical Reasoning Test is one of the best test types that benefits from practicing sample questions, as the tests themselves are very abstract. By practicing sample questions, you will familiarise yourself with some of the most common question and pattern types, become more comfortable and get familiar with thinking under time pressure.

In the example above you will have ONLY around 45 seconds to notice that:

  • the arrow moves around the diagram
  • shapes change from triangle to circle to square and
  • the long line is either horizontal or vertical, and then to find the right answer! There is a lot of time pressure which often leaves candidates anxious and harms their performance.

3. EDF First-round/Telephone Interview

This will be a competency based interview , and will be a great chance for you to demonstrate your passion, skills and enthusiasm to work for EDF.

Tip #1: The interview should last up to 30 minutes. Although it might seem long-winded, remember to refer to specific arguments following the S, T, A, R method: describe the particular situation, the task you were faced with, the what action you took to resolve it, concluding with the result of your work.

You should prepare some ideas of examples that you can later use during your interview based on the most common types of interview questions.

Want to know what questions could come up in your interview? Graduates First can help with the Question Identifier Tool (QIT).

Tip #2: Make sure to refer to EDF’s core competencies (we covered these earlier!).

4. EDF Assessment Centre

This is the last stage of the recruitment stage, so congratulations if you have made it this far!

During EDF’s Assessment Centre, you will be given the chance to network with professionals working at EDF, and learn more about the company. It is the perfect time for you to get a better insight into what it is like to work at EDF. You will also be asked to undertake some exercises. These may include:

EDF Group Exercise

This exercise will examine your ability to work as part of a team. Throughout this task EDF employees will observe you and how you solve problems as part of a team.

It is important that you are confident to share and argue for your ideas, but also be ready to contribute to somebody else’s input. Most importantly, speak clearly and do not interrupt anyone!

Try to persuade others towards your ideas and also ask critical thought-provoking questions, but only do so when it feels natural. You need to appreciate that other people on the team are just as important.

Learn more about Group Exercises

EDF Role Play Exercise

You will be given around 20 minutes to work in a pair and analyse a set of information. You and your partner will then need to prepare your response. In the second part, your interviewer will play the role of a client and you will be representing EDF. In this task, you will need to demonstrate your negotiation skills, teamwork and analytical thinking.

Learn more about Role Play Exercises ( for more help)

EDF Written Exercise

In this exercise you will need to write a response to a previously unseen case study problem in the candidate brief given to you. The top advice we give is to kick off by skimming through all the information and to plan your response quickly. Never answer the question unless you already have a clear idea of what is required. Make sure to check your spelling and watch the time – in many cases it might be better to miss one or two arguments in order to finish the task on time.

Learn more about Written Exercises

EDF Presentation Exercises

This exercise will primarily test you on your communication skills. Your assessors will be looking at your body language and tone to see how you would cope with delivering professional presentations, taking part in group discussions, and explaining your point of view.

Presentation exercise tip: Always stand straight, make regular eye contact with everyone in the audience and do not speak too fast.

What makes the Microsoft Logical Reasoning Test difficult is that there is no limit to how abstract these patterns and trends can be. They will usually evolve around the size, arrangement, movements and colours of two and three-dimensional shapes.

Some patterns are likely to differ in more than one of the aforementioned categories so be extra careful!

As it is very abstract, the best way to prepare for the Logical Reasoning Test is by practicing sample questions. By doing so, you will familiarise yourself with some of the most common questions types, become more comfortable and get used to thinking under time pressure.

  • the arrow moves around the diagram
  • shapes change from triangle to circle to square and
  • the long line is either horizontal or vertical, and then to find the right answer! There is a lot of time pressure which often leaves candidates anxious and harms their performance.

Microsoft Technical test

Depending on your previous experience and the particular position you are applying to, you might also be required to take some technical tests. These aim to examine your practical skills, and will most likely involve some coding knowledge and other skills relevant for your position. It is best practice to read the position opening description and try to think of some of the key skills that are crucial for this role, as you may be asked to demonstrate these during the assessment process. This is a good way to predict what you may be asked to do during Microsoft’s Technical Test, in addition to the application process in general.

3. Microsoft Video Interview

If you have successfully passed the online tests stage, you will be invited to Microsoft’s Video interview. This is a perfect opportunity for you to show demonstrate your interest and the potential skills that make you suitable for the particular role that you applied to.

In Microsoft’s Video Interview you are likely to be given 15 questions with a time limit of 3 minutes per question. These questions will be competency based (CBI) and will be focused around your CV and personal motivations, so review your CV and prepare examples of situations where you demonstrated key skills of ideal candidates. Examples of these are as follows: teamwork, determination, creativity, initiative, resistance, leadership etc.

You will be taken through a series of questions by first having a short period of time to analyse the question, and then given strict time limit to record your answer. Remember that keeping an eye out for time is crucial! It is better to conclude earlier and miss one point than be automatically cut off in the middle of your sentence.

You should prepare some ideas of examples that you can later use during your interview based on the most common types of interview questions.

Practice your tonal quality, body language, and ability to maintain eye contact beforehand, as these are all crucial to get right! One way of doing this is by creating mock video interviews and asking your family and friends to rate you on your performance.
